Make it stop, for the love of God, make it stop with this asshole. I feel like Donaldson is the type of that says "I don't care what anyone thinks about me" only to show up to the first day of spring training in baseball pants as if their jean shorts.
Then we have Yankee manager Aaron Boone saying shit like this “I think you’re crazy to not think there’s a bounce back in there offensively,”... no no Aaron Boone, I think you're the crazy one. Yes, I understand Boone is probably just saying this to have his players back, and Donaldson will most likely be the starting 3rd basement this season. He was above average defensively last year but is declining offensively and slumped to a 222/.308/.374 line with 15 home runs and a 97 wRC+ in 546 plate appearances.
A healthy DJ LeMahieu is the best option possible, and I trust him to have bounce back offensive season because he is the type of hitter the lineup desperately needs. DJ is a guys guy, no nonsense, right in the batters box, bat on ball type of hitter. Screw the analytics nerds, the Yankees already have enough hitters in the lineup that live and die by exit velocity and hard hit ball percentage. The Yankees also strikeout way above average as a team, DJ does not. While the banned shift will see the likes of Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton, and even Aaron Judge see a rise in average this season, hitting the ball hard right at some one for a line out, or warning track fly out, isn't winning you games.
It is easy to believe Donaldson still has some left in the tank as a former MVP who has $29 million dollars owed to him this season. For the historic franchise that hasn't reached a World Series since their '09 win, it is a what have you done for me lately, not does he have enough left to play.
2022 Postseason Stats for JD: 29 AB's, 16 Strikeouts, .172 avg, 5 hits, 0 HR's, 0 RBI's.
