Not me!
Today the Brooklyn Nets parted ways with head coach Steve Nash, who was hired in September of 2020. What once was a hot job with several stars in a fun market is now a land mine. How did it get that way? Well I’m glad you asked…Let’s start from the top of the timeline.
Year 1 of the KD/Kyrie era started by missing the playoffs due to Durant still healing from his Achilles injury.
Year 2 Kyrie Irving sprain his ankle & James Harden (who they traded a ton for) hurts his hamstring in their series against the Bucks which help lead to them getting eliminated.
Year 3, Kyrie can’t play half the games, due to his unvaccinated status.
Harden wants out and gets traded to Philly for Ben Simmons who doesn’t play one game and apparently has a back injury.
Swept out the playoffs by the Celtics (Kyrie’s old team). Watches the Warriors (Durant’s old team) win another championship.
Kyrie opts into his last year because no one else will sign him at the price he wants.
Durant demands a trade in the offseason.
Year 4 starts with a 1-5 record.
Kyrie makes more news with post that includes antisemitic information.
Nets are moving toward hiring Ime Udoka, who is suspended by the Celtics. Can’t make this up.
And that’s not even everything. That doesn’t include a weird back and forth with KD and Michael Rapaport, Kyrie pulling a no call no show, Ben Simmons air balling a lay up.
1 playoff series win in 3 years. What an all-time flop and a new meaning to super team.
As for Nash, for most of his tenure he looked overmatched and a fan of his best players.
With that said, Nash was in a lose lose situation. He would never have gotten credit if they won a championship anyway. He was doomed from the start to the end. From Kyrie saying they don’t really need a coach to Durant wanting both Nash and general manager Sean Marks fired this offseason.
If you take an honest look at this years roster it just isn’t built to win. No size, no defense. If you ask me, they could use a big guy like a Hassan Whiteside! And no I’m not just saying that because he’s my cousin.
Lastly, the nba is loaded with talent! Nearly every roster has several talented players who can go out and get buckets. When you get a chance go through the nba roster and I bet you’d be surprised at how many good players are on each team. On any night anyone can beat anyone. I think this Nets team would’ve been a 3-5 seed in the East 10 years ago. But this roster doesn’t get it done. I can really go on and on about how much more talented the nba has gotten but I won’t here.
