Dr Data Bet: UNC Team Total Over 33.5
Oh mama, there goes that man Dr. Data again talking about UNC football again. Drake Maye, Josh Downs,points,overs, the ceiling is the roof....its just another day in the office for your boy. As your jamming out to "Her Loss" and cracking your first budlatte, I'll tell you why this is this number will hit.
This UNC offense can strike at an instant, and their attack is centered around Freshman QB Drake Maye. The last time we spoke about Maye, he was a lesser known freshman whose name was kicked around for Heisman notable mentions. Now, he's firmly in the discussion for the award. In 8 games, the kid has thrown for a total of 2,671 yards on the season with 29 TD passes and only 3 INTs. Also, he has a team leading 440 yards rushing under his belt with 3 tuddys. Maye's favorite targets are Josh Downs, who has 48 receptions for a total of 527 Yards and 7 receiving TDs, and a deep threat Antoine Greene who has 23 receptions for 564 yards and 6 TDs. During ACC play, the squad averages 41.8 points a game which leads the league.
Now this UVA defense has a decent track record against the pass game this season. The Cavaliers surrender 192.6 yards per game against ACC opponents, which is 3rd in the league. This defense will need to be stellar as they face a UNC offense which averages an ACC leading 334.4 yards of offense in the air. Now in my opinion, I don't think this will matter since UVA struggles to stop the run. UVA run defense gives up 147.8 yards a game. This should make Drake Maye and RB Omarion Hampton lick there chops. I expect the unc run game to open up deep passes vs the UVA defense. The Tar Heels have scored below 32 points only once this season. UNC will get a ton of possessions in this game so a team total of 33.5 is attainable.
