The Calm Before The Storm Down At Augusta

With the weather forecast down in Augusta to be wetter than Tiger Woods sweat soaked shirt today, some of the tours biggest stars decided to go L O W today.

Don't let their shirt selection fool you, but Brooks Koepka and Victor Hovland decided to have themselves a day. Both shot bogey free 7 under rounds to be tied for the lead with the Spaniard, Jon Rahm. Rahm began his round with a double bogey on 1, and never looked back after that, birdied the next two holes, and then went on an unbelievable (-7) 12 hole run.

Tiger Woods....well, he looks old and tired. I hate to say it, but he didn’t have that Tiger spark that he used to. He made two back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16, but then bogeyed no. 18 to finish at +2. A frustrating round for Tiger, who will have to play a lot better on Friday if he wants to play on Saturday and Sunday. Woods will either post a low enough round tomorrow the ensure his 22nd consecutive cut at Augusta, or will be grabbing his cyborg leg by the 7th hole.

Cameron Young although he’s not as flashy as Hovland, but his game is just as solid. He was under the radar for most of the round even though he managed to make seven birdies along with two bogeys. He looks like his game was designed for Augusta National and without a doubt he’ll be in one of the last groups on Sunday. Also thanks for costing me $1,750 on a $10 bet Cam.

Jordan Spieth loves Augusta. Maybe it’s more like a love-hate relationship, but his confidence on this course was apparent on Thursday. He was 4 under par after eight holes and then bogeyed no. 11 and double-bogeyed no. 13. Two birdies at 15 and 16 got him back to 3-under par where he finished Friday.

The pressure was high for the 2022 Masters Champion, Scottie Scheffler, and he started off like the no. 1 golfer in the world that he is. He eagled no. 2 and birdied no. 9 and looked like was going to share the top of the leaderboard with Rahm and Hovland, but a missed 3-foot putt on no. 11 slowed down his charge. He went on to shoot one-under par on the back nine to finish at four under par.

Outside of Koepka, and Cameron Smith (-1), most of the LIV guys didn't have much to talk about. Kevin Na withdrew from the tournament, DJ is hanging around but doesn't matter because that Saudi money change him (shout out Paulina Gretzky). Phil was the biggest surprise of the day also posting a 1 under round.

It's going to be a wet weekend down in Augusta, and I'm not talking about the kind of wet my pants get after a sex dream about Paulina. Players needed to go low today with the conditions of the course unknown due to the weather, but I tried to tell you all yesterday....betting on Brooks after his weekend win in Orlando may be the most free bet ever.
