Well didn't see this happening on my 2023 Bingo board. Just a little over a year since the #LIVTour has begun, they have agreed to merge and move forward in a larger commercial business, the circuits announced Tuesday.
"The two entities signed an agreement that would combine the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s commercial businesses and rights into a new, yet-to-be-named for-profit company. The agreement includes DP World Tour, also known as the European PGA Tour." - per Lillian Rizzo
Not a bad year to be some of the LIV Tour players...get paid multi millions of dollars to play in less events per year, that are also a day shorter, only to return to the PGA in about a years time. I imagine when Brooks Koekpa won the PGA tour, as well as 4 LIV golfers finishing in the top 10 during the Masters. Twitter has also been the wild west since the news broke.
Gotta be a tough look if you were one of the PGA Tour members who considered going to LIV, turned it down and now you wishing you had $100 million and your PGA tour card? Couldn't be me! LIV obviously took the majority of the top talent, and biggest names on golf when they first started. Headlined by Phil Mickelson, who had been on a tear these last few weeks so maybe he knew the news was going to break soon regarding the merger.
Full Swing season two gonna need to do an episode with Phil explaining the merger and how it was all his idea. The comissioner of the PGA had the following to say, "combines PIF's golf-related commercial businesses and rights (including LIV Golf) with the commercial businesses and rights of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour into a new, collectively owned, for-profit entity to ensure that all stakeholders benefit from a model that delivers maximum excitement and competition among the game's best players."
