Mitch Marner’s Overtime Heroics Propel Canada to Olympic Semifinals

In a thrilling quarterfinal matchup at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Team Canada overcame a resilient Czechia squad to secure a 4–3 overtime victory, advancing to the semifinals. Mitch Marner netted the game-winning goal in the extra frame, capping off a dramatic comeback for the Canadians.

Canada struck first with Macklin Celebrini scoring just over three minutes into the game, assisted by Connor McDavid. However, Czechia responded with goals from Lukas Sedlak and David Pastrnak, taking a 2–1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Nathan MacKinnon tied the game at 2–2 with a power-play goal, but Czechia regained the lead in the third period through Ondrej Palat. With time winding down, Nick Suzuki scored the equalizer for Canada, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, Marner delivered the decisive blow, securing Canada's place in the semifinals.
Canada will face the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals on Friday.
