Kyle Shanahan's Car Accident Doesn't Add Up.

Maybe I'm just too online.

Maybe social media has completely rotted my brain.

But something about the Kyle Shanahan car accident story just doesn't pass the smell test.

Not the accident itself.

The timeline.

According to Shanahan, the crash happened on July 14 after he looked down to retrieve his phone that had fallen between the seats of his Tesla. His car drifted into oncoming traffic, resulting in a violent head-on collision that left him with a concussion, a broken nose, broken ribs, a broken hand, and more than 40 stitches to his face. Thankfully, the other driver wasn't seriously injured. Shanahan later took full responsibility, and Palo Alto police confirmed there was no evidence of alcohol or impairment. The initial report blaming the other driver was later attributed to a clerical error that has since been corrected.

So let me ask the obvious question.

How in the world did this stay quiet for almost two weeks?

We're talking about the head coach of one of the biggest franchises in the NFL.

In today's sports world, a player can get caught going 15 miles over the speed limit and it'll be breaking news within an hour. Somebody likes an Instagram post? ESPN has a graphic ready. A backup quarterback changes jersey numbers? There are ten podcasts breaking it down before lunch.

Yet somehow an NFL head coach gets into a major head-on collision, suffers multiple broken bones, misses team activities, and almost nobody hears about it until nearly two weeks later.

That's the part I can't wrap my head around.

Now, before anyone takes this the wrong way...

There is absolutely no evidence that anything shady happened beyond what Shanahan has already admitted. He said he looked away from the road because he dropped his phone. Police backed up his account and confirmed there were no signs of impairment.

Sometimes the simplest explanation really is the correct one.

But because this story stayed buried for so long, here are my top 3 theories:

• Maybe he was getting topped off by his wife.

• Maybe he had a side piece in the passenger seat.

• Maybe there was something else going on inside the vehicle.

Again...

To be crystal clear...

There is zero evidence for any of those theories.

That's simply where the internet goes when a story this big stays under wraps for nearly two weeks.

The reality is probably much less exciting.

The crash happened during the dead period of the NFL calendar, Shanahan wasn't required to speak publicly, and the initial police reporting error only added to the confusion. Once training camp rolled around, Shanahan addressed everything himself because he wanted to make sure the other driver wasn't unfairly blamed.

Still...

You're never convincing me it isn't strange that a story involving one of the NFL's biggest head coaches, multiple broken bones, and a totaled vehicle somehow stayed out of the news cycle for nearly two weeks.

In 2026?

That's the part that feels impossible.
