Knicks vs. Pistons: The 2025 First-Round Drama Nobody Knew They Needed (Until It Got Spicy

In a series that felt like it was directed by the NBA's version of Christopher Nolan (plot twists everywhere), the New York Knicks survived the spirited Detroit Pistons, 4 games to 2, advancing to the second round of the playoffs with a few gray hairs and a whole lot of Jalen Brunson.

Let’s rewind the madness.

Game 1 – Knicks 123, Pistons 112

The Knicks decided to take a little nap in the fourth quarter — then woke up, chugged a triple espresso, and went on a 21-0 run. Jalen Brunson casually dropped 34 like it was laundry day. Detroit looked good until they didn’t, and Knicks fans went from “Oh no, not again” to “We’re winning the chip!” in under five minutes.

Game 2 – Pistons 100, Knicks 94

Cade Cunningham clearly had some beef with history and snapped Detroit’s 15-game playoff losing streak like it was a curse from an old sitcom. He put up 33, and even the New York hot dog vendors looked shook. Knicks fans immediately started blaming the refs, the rotations, and Mercury being in retrograde.

Game 3 – Knicks 118, Pistons 116

A thriller. Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns turned into NBA Jam characters (he’s on fiiiire!), combining for 62 points. Detroit’s Tim Hardaway Jr. hit 7 threes just to keep it spicy, but the Knicks pulled it out and resumed their usual habit of making wins way harder than they need to be.

Game 4 – Knicks 94, Pistons 93

Cue chaos. Towns nailed a clutch 3, then Detroit may have gotten robbed on a no-call in the final seconds (Pistons Twitter still isn't over it). Cunningham had a triple-double and probably deserved an ice bath, a hug, and a therapist after that one.

Game 5 – Pistons 106, Knicks 103

Detroit wasn’t ready to go fishing just yet. Cade played like he had MSG stock options, and the Knicks had a collective off-night (Brunson shot like he was wearing oven mitts). Pistons fans had a pulse again.

Game 6 – Knicks 116, Pistons 113

This was Jalen Brunson’s “I’m Him” game. Dude dropped 40 points and hit the game-winner with 4.3 seconds left, then walked off like a guy who just successfully parallel parked in Manhattan. Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby backed him up, and the Pistons, valiant as they were, finally ran out of miracle dust.

Final Thoughts

  • Brunson played like he was auditioning for the 1996 Bulls.

  • The Pistons were way tougher than anyone expected — their rebuild might actually be working?

  • Knicks fans are cautiously optimistic, which is the most dangerous kind of Knicks fan.

Next up: The Celtics. Pray for our collective blood pressure.

Now I wanted to give the article breakdown of the series in meme version since I am the self-proclaimed "meme king"
