John Deer Classic Picks, Preview, & Gambling Odds

While it isn't a designated event and may not have a stacked field, the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run is the perfect opportunity for an unknown to make a splash. The John Deere Classic will play host to 156 golfers, and as expected, the field is considerably weaker than we have gotten used to this season. After a long run of top-tier events, many of the world’s top players are taking the week off. A few of the notable golfers who will make the trip include Denny McCarthy, Cameron Young, Russell Henley and Matt Kuchar.

Past Winners at the John Deere Classic:

  • 2022: J.T. Poston (-21)

  • 2021: Lucas Glover (-19)

  • 2019: Dylan Frittelli (-21)

  • 2018: Michael Kim (-27)

  • 2017: Bryson DeChambeau (-18)

  • 2016: Ryan Moore (-22)

  • 2015: Jordan Spieth (-20)

Course breakdown:

TPC Deere Run PAR: 71 | YARDAGE: 7,289 | GREENS: Bentgrass PAR-3s: Four | PAR-4s: 11 | PAR-5s: Three

Favorites To Win:

Adam Hadwin (+2200):

He could've used a security guard to tackle Rickie Fowler this past weekend for a chance to win the #RocketMortgageClassic. However I have liked what I have seen from him the last few weeks, and in a week with some of the bigger names sitting out. I can see Hadwin getting it done and following suit with Fowler by ending his winless drought. He's 24 under since missing his last cut. Ranks 30th in SG: Approach this season. Ranked 10th in the same category last week where he was defeated in a playoff.

Adam Schenk (+2200):

Went close twice already this year at the Valspar Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge. Twice in the top 10 here in his last three visits suggest a breakout performance is ready to go.

Emiliano Grillo (+2500):

Debuted with a T2 last year. He led the field in GIR and putting inside 10 feet (66-for-68). This time around, he’s just a few weeks removed from his return to victory at Colonial, T15 at Travelers in last start.

Longshot To Win:

Joel Dahmen (+20,000):

Michael Kim was +20,000 when he won in 2018. $5 every week until Joel wins. #DrinkLongDrink

Top 5:

Russel Henley (+350):

Solo second in 2019 and a T11 in 2021; scoring average of 66.875 in those eight rounds. Eight top 20s in last nine starts. Tops on TOUR in fairways hit; 10th in proximity. I think in a smaller field, he will be around the top, but I don't believe he has enough to get the W.

Top 10:

Denny McCarthy (+200):

The raw and real emotion I saw from this man after his close call at Muirfield Village makes me high on his chances to get a win at some point soon. His hot putter should see him ticking up the boards. Strong putters are rewarded on TPC Deere Run’s smooth surfaces, and there isn’t a better one than McCarthy.
