The New York Jets fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars last night, 19-3. The loss all but closes the door on their postseason hopes.
The Jets were one of the surprises of the league but these last few weeks have been disappointing. The disappointment starts with the quarterback. It got so bad last night that the Jets stopped the game in the 3rd quarter and called down a fan from the stands to take the ball from Zach Wilson. Apparently, the fan is a practice squad player name Christopher L. Streveler. Who?
There’s not much “data” on Strev. In his first two drives he had a little juice. You could hear the fans dying to cheer for something and get behind one of their own. All of that came to an end, once the Jags Defense stopped staring at Streveler’s Jordan’s and started slamming him to the turf.
After the game, Jets coach Robert Saleh said we haven’t seen the last of Zack Wilson. And I said “Shiddddd! Yes we have”. Maybe coach was talking in literal terms. In that case, yes we will see him again on the sideline, you may even see him in a new uniform or the grocery store. Last night was the clearest sign that New York need a quarterback.
The Jets should allow Mike White to play these last two games and decide what’s the plan with him next season. Even if White plays well, the Jets should go all in on fixing their quarterback situation this offseason. Pull an Arizona, the way they replaced Josh Rosen with Kyler Murray in one year. The only issue with that is, I don’t trust the Jets to draft a good quarterback so it should be done through free agency or a trade.
New York should target Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr and Jimmy Garropolo.
The Jets didn’t just whiff on the number two pick in Wilson because they’re the Jets, the whiffed because there’s too much time between the last college game and the draft. Justin Fields was the consensus number two quarterback, behind Trevor Lawrence at the end of their college season but when you have months to watch players run around in underwear and throw in garbage cans you fall in love with the wrong stuff.
Due to Wilson’s bad performance, I propose the Jets get an extra game to play, so they have a chance to make the playoffs. Also, Jets fans stop booing Zach, the poor guy is blind!
