Coming only a few days after the end of the inaugural, we have our first free agency move! I mentioned how I wasn't a fan of the team play when LIV first came about, but as the season went on I loved it. It makes golf not so up tight and reminds you of a round with the boys on a Saturday morning.
Taylor Gooch is leaving the current LIV Champions, "4 ACES", which just won him $4 million this weekend. Gooch (will always laugh typing his name) is heading to Bubba Watsons "Niblicks". Seeing "Gooch" on the "Niblicks" will always make me chuckle when it pops up on the TV next season. Peter Uihlein will be filling his spot on the 4 ACES, which is probably the best career decision he will ever make from a financial perspective. I'm pretty sure I could make a few million being teammates with DJ.
This is so good for LIV, anytime a sports season ends, every looks at their team and acts as a GM in the group chat about what their team needs to become a contender next season. With that being said, I dont think guys switching teams on the LIV tour will bring the same excitement as whether or not the NY Giants decide to bring back Daniel Jones after this season.
The issue here is team play doesn't mean that much unless your supporting cast is significantly worse. "4 ACES" and "Punch GC" were led by Dustin Johnson and Cam Smith...DJ has been one of the best golfers in the PGA for a while, and Cam is the hottest golfer in the world right now. This is no slight against Pat Perez, seems like a cool guy that would be great to crush beers with, but he didnt do much to help the 4 ACES win any of the tournaments this year. Some of these teams the guys show up, enjoy a round with the boys, and collect their check. Well see how the rest of the "off-season" plays out, but this fast start after the season ended only Sunday.
