Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Nick Sirianni spoke with the media this morning to announce that most of the starters will rest for Sunday's season finale. Which means, Saquon Barkley will most likely not have a chance to break Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record.
"Obviously it's a very special record that's been standing for a very long time by a great player. It's a team record that everybody's involved in. You weigh all those things. But at the end of the day, you just try to do what's best for the team."- Nick Sirianni
Barkley, who will face his former team this Sunday, currently has 2,005 rushing yards, just 101 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards set in 1984.
I am woke to Barkley fully sitting on Sunday. Yes, if Barkley were to play this weekend and break the record, it would have an asterisk because Dickerson did it in fewer games. However, I wouldn't be shocked if they give Barkley a quarter or even the first half to try and break a run or two to secure the rushing record. Especially with how the Giants handled contract negotiations this past off season, it would be even sweeter for Saquon to break the record against them.
"I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it," Dickerson added. "He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it."
^totally not mad about it, but his record has been around longer than I have been alive so if I was him I be salty too about having an extra game to do it.
Playing devils advocate, the Eagles have secured their spot in the playoffs, Jalen Hurts has been injured and recovering, if Saquon were to play and get hurt, their chance for a Super Bowl ring dies there.
