The deeper we get into the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the more one thing becomes clear:

There are a lot of good teams in this tournament.

But there might only be one team that looks unstoppable right now.

And that team is the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic Absolutely Steamrolls Korea

If you needed proof that the Dominican Republic might be the team to beat in this tournament, Friday night was a perfect example.

The Dominicans destroyed Korea 10–0, ending the game in the seventh inning via the mercy rule and punching their ticket to the semifinals.

And the performance wasn’t just dominant — it was electric.

The Dominican offense jumped on Korea early and never looked back, building a massive lead behind big swings from a lineup loaded with MLB stars. The pitching staff took care of the rest, completely shutting down Korea’s offense.

Cristopher Sánchez set the tone on the mound with five shutout innings and eight strikeouts, allowing just two hits while striking out his final four hitters. The bullpen followed with two more scoreless innings to finish the job.

But the moment everyone will remember came in the bottom of the seventh.

With the Dominicans already up big and the mercy rule looming, Austin Wells stepped to the plate and absolutely crushed a three-run walk-off homer, officially ending the game and sending the Dominican dugout into chaos.

It was the perfect ending to a night that felt like a celebration.

The Energy of This Dominican Team Is Different

Watching this Dominican Republic team is just different.

The excitement level.

The swagger.

The way the dugout reacts to every big moment.

It’s not just talent — though they have plenty of that. It’s the connection they have with each other and with representing their country.

This team plays with emotion, pride, and an obvious love for their culture and the game itself.

And the results back it up.

The Dominicans are now 5-0 in the tournament, have outscored opponents 51–10, and have already tied the World Baseball Classic record with 14 home runs.

They don’t just want to win.

They look like they want it more than everyone else. I have never seen Vladdy Jr runs the bases as fast as he did tonight.

Meanwhile… Team USA Had to Survive Canada

After watching the Dominican Republic put on a clinic earlier in the night, the attention shifted to the USA vs Canada quarterfinal matchup.

And this one had some real tension.

Team USA came into the game needing a strong performance after the chaos that surrounded their path to the knockout stage — including the Mark DeRosa tiebreaker confusion during pool play that briefly made it look like the Americans might be heading home early.

Instead, they responded.

Logan Webb delivered a strong outing, keeping Canada off the board early and giving Team USA exactly what it needed from the starting spot.

Offensively, the Americans jumped ahead thanks to timely hitting from the bottom of the lineup, with players like Brice Turang and Pete Crow-Armstrong driving in key runs.

The U.S. built a 5–0 lead, but Canada made things interesting in the sixth inning, scoring three runs including a two-run homer by Bo Naylor to cut the lead to 5–3.

From there, the bullpen had to finish the job.

And as I’m writing this, Mason Miller is absolutely mowing down Canadian hitters in the top of the ninth, closing the door and securing the 5–3 win for Team USA.

Some Americans Still Need to Wake Up

Despite the win, not everything has been perfect for the Americans.

Bryce Harper and Cal Raleigh have both been non-factors offensively throughout this WBC, which is not exactly what you expect from two of the bigger names in the lineup.

And Raleigh had a moment earlier in the game that didn’t exactly sit great either.

When he stepped up for his first at-bat against his Seattle Mariners teammate Josh Naylor, Raleigh chose not to acknowledge him.

Look — I get it.

The patriotism.

The intensity.

Representing your country.

But at the same time… you’re also not doing much at the plate right now.

Shake the hand and keep it moving.

The Real Test Comes Sunday

The good news for Team USA is simple:

They survived.

And in tournament baseball, that’s all that matters.

But the reward for surviving might be the biggest challenge of the entire tournament.

Because Sunday…

Team USA faces the Dominican Republic.

And if the Americans want to slow down the hottest team in the WBC, they’re sending out their best weapon.

Paul Skenes.

Which honestly feels like sending out a Marvel super soldier to try to stop an unstoppable force.

If he’s on his game, Team USA has a real chance.

If not…

Well, we might be watching the Dominican Republic keep this incredible run going.
