The NBA made headlines with the announcement of two rule changes for the upcoming season.
One, an opposing team will be awarded a technical free throw when a player is deemed having attempted to draw a foul by flopping.
The other in-game rule change rewards coaches with a second replay challenge if their first one was successful.
There are additional information to both rules. For one, the new flopping penalty does not add to a players two technical fouls that can lead to their ejection. As for the coaching challenge change, a timeout will be charged on the second challenge, whether it's successful or not.
I personally like both rules. The flopping has rubbed many viewers like myself the wrong way. I can't stand when a referee is baited into making a call by a habitual flopper like Marcus Smart or Kyle Lowry! Yeah I'm saying names. "Put a name on that bullet, Big Neef". Even the second greatest player of all-time has had his share of flailing! Come on King!
With the coaching challenges, it only makes sense. It's very similar to the way the NFL does it. Why not reward a coach for getting the call correctly that the refs missed! I like it, however let's make sure we expedite the review process. I don't have all night!
Can we get a 4th official who's job is solely to quickly watch the replay and make a decision?
