Trouble In Baltimore. Sammy Watkins Sounds Off About Lamar Jacksons Injury

Lamar Jackson has been ruled out this Sunday for the playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals. I have been saying for the last few weeks I was skeptical of Lamar returning this season because I doubt he wants to risk the chance of securing the bag this offseason by getting hurt again. The quote below from Watkins was made on Wednesday before the news came out that Jackson wouldn't be starting this weekend.

Washington Post via Adam Kilgore -- “In this league, everybody is pretty much banged up, hurt,” veteran wideout Sammy Watkins said Wednesday in a quiet corner of Baltimore’s locker room. “I don’t want to speak for him and his situation and whatever he’s going through with the contracts. I don’t know what world he’s in. But for me, you got a chance to do something special. We all know with Lamar Jackson out there, this team is really freaking good, and special things can happen. He can will this team to a Super Bowl. I don’t think he’s thinking about it that way. …

“But he’s got an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. I hope he hobbles back out there. … Put him out for the pass plays, and don’t run him at all. But you never know. That could be wrong. I’m being very selfish right now, just to want him to be out on the field. But, man, what a great thing it would be to see [No.] 8 touch the field this Sunday, and we go out there and blow them out. But that’s for Lamar and everybody else to figure out. Hope miraculously something happens, somebody reach out to him, whether it’s a coach or somebody, and he decides to play. But that’s a question if he’s healthy or he’s not. I don’t know. I haven’t been watching him.”

Some background on this entire situation began in the off season when Lamar declined a 6 year extension for $290 million and $133 million of that guaranteed. I think this offer was rejected after the Cleveland Browns gave notable horny boi Deshaun Watson, a fully guaranteed $230 million dollar contract after haven't played in two years. After Jackson sprained his PCL on December 4th against the #Broncos, the coming weeks we saw John Harbaugh become more vague each week in regards to the status of Jackson's injury. I think even Harbaugh saw the righting on the wall.

Now back to Watkins comments. On the one hand, kudos to Watkins for having the balls to say what most football fans have been thinking heading into the playoffs. But on the other side, who the fuck does Sammy Watkins think he is? Former 4th overall pick in 2014 has never really proved to be worth the #4 overall pick and has been bouncing around from franchise to franchise over the last few years as he's on his second stint with the Ravens. Coming back to Baltimore this season and by making these comments makes me believe he has seen these issues with the Ravens QB before.

Whether his knee is actually fucked, or he's sitting out to make sure he gets paid, he ain't playing this weekend. Whatever opinion you have on Lamar, he's a former MVP, and the closest thing we've seen since Michael Vick. It sucks that the Jets will probably give him a billion dollars and he will play 10-12 games a season and never make the playoffs.
