MLB All Star Game Preview

MLB All-Star Game details

  • What: 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

  • When: Tuesday, July 11 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, 8:10 p.m. ET

  • Watch: FOX on television, or fuboTV for streaming

All-Star Game odds

  • Moneyline: American League -105, National League -116

  • Run Line: AL -1.5 (+192), NL +1.5 (-235)

  • Over/Under: O 7.5 (+105), U 7.5 (-125)

The starting pitchers for the MLB All-Star Game are Zac Gallen for the visiting NL, and Gerrit Cole for the AL. Both are making their first start in the classic game.

  • AL: Have won nine straight All-Star games

  • NL: Have lost by an average of 2 runs per game during current skid

The UNDER has hit in 13 of the last 16 All-Star games. That’s because each team has a load of great pitchers, and some of them are pitchers the opposing batters in the other league haven’t seen a lot. However, there are quite a few talented pitchers that won’t be available in this game. Most of those guys are elite starters, too. Spencer Strider, Shane McClanahan, Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw and others were replaced because of injuries or required rest. With that said, both teams will have to lean heavily on relievers. And while these are some of the best short-inning options in baseball, I’d like to think that some of the best hitters in the world can combine to score a measly eight runs here.

Gerrit Cole has been touched up by the long ball the last few years, and against a deep NL lineup, it wont hurt to sprinkle Ronald Acuna to homer at +800.

Why you should back the American League

Shohei Ohtani is an impactful playmaker. Ohtani can dominate opposing players as a pitcher and will spray the ball all around the diamond at the plate. The three-time All-Star has recorded 132 strikeouts as a pitcher with 32 home runs and 71 RBI as a hitter, though he won't be used as a pitcher on Tuesday.

Left fielder Randy Arozarena is a speedy and alert defender. Arozarena utilizes his compact swing to constantly get on base. He has belted 16 home runs and 58 RBI. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a pure hitter with excellent bat control. The 24-year-old has smacked 13 dingers with 58 RBI. In the 2022 All-Star Game, Guerrero Jr. went 1 of 3 with a two-run home run.

Why you should back the National League

The NL hasn't found the win column in this game recently but most of the games have been extremely competitive. Two of the past three have been one-run wins for the AL and two games during the current streak have gone into extra innings. Both teams will be missing some key pieces for rest or injury reasons, but the AL has been hit particularly hard in that department.

Aaron Judge (toe), Mike Trout (hand) and Yordan Alvarez (oblique) are among the big AL bats missing. Meanwhile, every selected starting NL position player is expected to be available. Six of the top eight MLB leaders in OPS are on the NL roster, so even a loaded AL staff could struggle against this deep and balanced NL lineup.

Any run 1st Inning +110

Over 7.5 +105

Acuna to hit a HR +800

National League ML -116
