JJ Watt Announces Retirement At The End of The Season

Damn, JJ Watt tweeted this morning that he is going to retire at the end of the year. I blame the Arizona Cardinals. Outside of the miserable season the Cardinals have had, JJ was having another solid season collecting 9.5 sacks. This has been the most sacks in a season since he has 16 in 2018, following that season he had battled multiple injuries, a heart issue, and then getting married and having a kid.

As a 3 time DPOY, it is still remarkable the career JJ has had despite the games he missed due to injury. It is crazy to think about his numbers if he didn't get hurt in 2016/17 and against in 2021. Totaling 107.5 career sacks with two more games to play this season he has had a remarkable career, and is definitely admired across the league. Sad to see him retire before getting a ring, it would've been cool to see him potentially go to the Steelers next year and play with his brother TJ.

Thinking back to his draft class, I think it is arguable that the only player better than him is Von Miller. Better than #ScamNewton, AJ Green who has had turf toe his entire career, and Patrick Peterson is great but doesn't compare to JJ.

Congrats again to a great career, JJ. Can't wait to see his workout videos on IG of him blasting Fort Minor "Remember The Name" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDvr08sCPOc. And who knows, maybe he'll pull and OBJ next season and join a contender when he's fully healthy and only needs to play a few regular season games and goes to get his ring.
