Jacob deGrom Will Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Why do bad things happen to good people? Jacob deGrom has been the best pitcher in baseball....when healthy. It sucks to hear the news that he will most likely be out the remainder of this season, and potentially all of the 2024 season. Just an absolutely awful break for Jacob deGrom and the Texas Rangers. Not that nobody saw this potentially coming.

The two-time Cy Young winner was moved to the 60-day injured list on Monday.

The 34-year-old was 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA and 45 strikeouts over his first six starts this season.

DeGrom, who had various arm issues with the Mets, had his first Tommy John surgery in 2010 when he was in the minors.

This past off season both the New York Mets, and Texas Rangers (among other teams) had a decision to make. Would they want to invest in a pitcher who has spent more time off the field injured, then on the field leading the league in ERA. Mets didn't want to pay him, Texas did, and now here we are.

Over his final two seasons with the Mets, deGrom made just 26 starts, including 11 last season, when he had a 3.08 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 64 ⅓ innings. The four-time All-Star had a 2.52 ERA with 1,607 strikeouts in 1,326 innings during his nine years in Flushing. DeGrom’s final start with the Mets came in Game 2 of the wild-card round against the Padres in October, when he allowed two runs in six innings to earn the win.

You have to feel for Jake at this point, you can see the emotions as he spoke to the media, and @Jared_Carrabis said it best. To be the best pitcher in your sport, and constantly have to be on the IL has to be the worst feeling imaginable, and it shows that although he got a huge deal this offseason he'd much rather just be on the field helping his team.
