NBA All Star weekend is a thing of the past, and objectively is the worst All-Star break across the four major sports, and the NFL played flag football this year. I think they should cancel it all together until Lebron, Zion, and Ja Morant all participate in the Slam Dunk contest in the same year.
Next year there has to be some kind of change if they are going to continue to put out this product of basketball. I saw some ideas floated out there on twitter that I actually thought would make sense as upgrades to improve the quality of the game. A round robin tournament of 3 on 3 half court games would work to keep it moving, two winning teams can draft 2 players from losing teams for the finals. A final 5 on 5, no subs, and 2-3 minute quarters would be a slight upgrade. Love to see everyone play some lock down defense
Denver Nuggets coach, coach Michael Malone, who helmed the losing Team LeBron on Sunday night, didn't mince words after the game, speaking out against the lack of effort from both sides. "It's an honor to be here. It's an honor to be a part of a great weekend, great players. But that is the worst basketball game ever played," Malone said after the All-Star game. "I don't know if you can fix it. I give Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving -- those guys were like, competing. Joel was imploring some of the guys to play harder, to try to get some defense in. No one got hurt, they put on a show for the fans, but that is a tough game to sit through. I'm not gonna lie."
Wtf was the Skills Challenge? Team Jazz, comprising Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler, beat Team Antetokounmpo (Giannis Antetokounmpo was replaced by Bucks teammate Jrue Holiday) and Team Rook (Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith Jr., Jaden Ivey). This was very tough to watch....I watched Jrue Holiday and the lesser Antetokounmpo brothers lose to Jordan Clarkson and crew, in which Clarkson looked high as beans and could give a fuck about the event. Imagine watching NBA "All Stars" miss 5-7 foot jumpers in the skills contest? Sheesh! 2007 Skills Challenge...you think any of them were just happy to be there?
Hats off to the 76ers, Mac McClung, on winning the dunk contest. McClung is no stranger to dunk contests, having won the BallisLife All-America Game Slam Dunk Contest in 2018. Mac was the only positive thing that came out of this weekend.
