"Everyone Was Aware" - Mookie Betts On Stealing Signs With Boston Red Sox

Well well well you say it ain't so! In a Sunday column in the Los Angeles Times, Dodgers star Mookie Betts – a member of the Red Sox team that defeated the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series – admitted he was aware his team was using live video feeds to steal opponents' signs.

“Yeah,” Betts told columnist Dylan Hernandez, “everybody was.”

Personally, I don't know who even cares about this anymore. Obviously the Houston Astros were the face of this "scandal" if you even want to call it that at this point. The Yankees were among teams investigated in this, and now Mookie Betts is speaking out years later. I thought this was a random time for Betts to even bring this up, being that it's 4 years later. However, the reason the subject even came up as players started reporting to spring training is that over the winter, the Dodgers hired former Red Sox video replay coordinator J.T. Watkins.

Hmmmmm. Makes you think. Red Sox beat the Dodgers 4-1 in the 2018 World Series. Makes you think, Mookie is on the Dodgers, JT Watkins is now working for the Dodgers. The two of them seeing each other during spring training.

Watkins was the one who deciphered opponents signs by using in-game video and was the only person on the Red Sox suspended as a result of MLB's sign-stealing investigation.

"People are trying to make it like we’re cheating," Betts said. "Give us credit. We had a good team. Give us some credit. We had Cy Young winners. We had MVPs. We had Gold Glove winners. We had Silver Sluggers. We had all that. Take that into account.”

Translation "We cheated, were good at cheating, but were also good at baseball."
