Per Adam Schefter and his sources, and their sources, Eagles and Darius Slay could not work out a restructured contract and he will be a free agent today at 4 pm. These rumors started swirling when Philly announced they were bringing back CB James Bradberry. "The veteran Eagles cornerback said he did not ask to be traded. In fact, he wants to finish his career with the Eagles." The kiss of death for any athlete that hasn't played their entire career with a team LOL.
Slay posted a message on Twitter saying he has “nothing but love” for Philadelphia and “let’s see where we heading next” on earlier this morning. Saw that tweet going around and within a few minutes Schefty two phones is breaking the news.
Slay was heading into the final year of his contract with a base salary of $17 million and a cap hit of just over $26.1 million, which led to talks with the Eagles about a new deal. Those talks did not progress, however, and Slay will now be hitting the open market in search of a new place to play.
Similar to the Cowboys cutting Zeke, the Eagles have young, more talented, and financially friendly players worth more than Slay. Also doesn't help that he was the only corner to let Kenny Golladay score when he was on the Giants. Surprised he wasn't cut on the spot that day. But this is addition to the many departures on the Philly defense for sure.
