Grading My ESPN Fantasy Football Draft

So I just finished my 2023 Fantasy Football draft. I am only doing one league this year, in which I am the defending champ. Quick recap of my team last year, had the 9th overall pick in which I was able to snag Justin Jefferson (a DAWG), then Devante Adams (a DAWG) in the wrap around 11th pick. Followed it up with Nick Chubb, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Jacobs, and TJ Hockenson. Those 5 players all finished in the top 5 at their position, and carried me to the league win. Loved my draft last year, however, @ESPN graded my draft with a C- and 8/10 in my league.

Onto this years draft. Absolutely hate it. ESPN graded at with an A- and 2/10 in my league overall (all based on projections I'd imagine). Had the 3rd overall pick this year in which I went with Ja'Marr chase, who is depending on who you ask, is the best receiver in the league (I think it's Jefferson), but also has a question mark with Joe Burrows status. Outside of Josh Jacobs and T.J. Hockenson, I think the rest of my team has question marks:

Can Deshaun Watson return to form before getting addicted to massages?

Can Jamaal Williams score even half as many touchdowns as he did last year?

Will Geno Smith write back to DK in the endzone?

Calvin Ridley hasnt played in a year, can he live up to the expectations?

The favorite part of my draft was my bench players. I love the Giants this season and expect Daniel Jones to take another big step, that team has no ego and just plays ball. Breece Hall will be slow to start, especially with the addition of Dalvin Cook, but firmly believe he will be a huge part of the Jets offense in the middle to late parts of the season. Pickett to Pickens just sounds like a TD connection. Jordan Love to Christian Watson...."The new Rodgers to Devante"- Uncle Tim. We can ignore Dalton Shultz and Michael Gallup, they will be bench players/dropped unless given any reason to hold onto them. I told a flyer on Adam Theilan because I bought the training camp hype that he has been in the best shape coming into a season and may be a security blanket for rookie QB, Bryce Young.

Bench Players:

I was texting Big Neef during my draft as we have been talking shop over our fantasy drafts the last few weeks, so I sent him over my team and asked for his feedback.

Big Neef’s Review:

What I like: The wide receivers. The goal is to get 5 of the 40 best wideouts and you did that. I really like Chase, Metcalf, Ridley, C. Watson and Pickens!

What’s solid: Your Running Backs. Josh Jacobs just got paid so we can only hope he doesn’t take his foot off the gas. In the AFC West, Las Vegas will have to score points and I don’t expect it to all be from Pornstar Jimmy’s arm. Your other feature back is the best character in football, Jamal Williams. He scored a lot of touchdowns for Detroit last year, I expect that to translate against a weak NFC South division.

What concerns me: The quarterbacks. I see a ton of potential in Deshaun Watson and Daniel Jones this season. The only problem is, potential isn’t a guarantee. You’ll have to play the right guy every week. Hopefully Watson is the dual threat he once was if not Danny Dimes runs a lot so he should be a good play.
