It has been a rough start to the off season as a Yankees fan. The Houston Astros won the world series again....after sweeping the Yankees in the ALCS.
Just a few days after it was rumored that the Astros #1 free agent target was Anthony Rizzo, which would strengthen Houstons already stacked roster, as well as weaken the Yankees....Rizzo is back in NY for 2 years $34 mil (club option for 2025). This is a big start for the Yankees off season, not only to have a fan favorite back in the club house, excellent defender at 1st base, and has become a close friend of Aaron Judge over the last few years.
Rizzo brings a power lefty bat which fits perfect for the short porch in right field "wahhhhh the yankees dont play in a real stadium". I think this was a move the Yankees had to make outside of resigning Judge....this deal also helps that with the friendship the two have made over these last two seasons.
Obviously I expect the Yankees make some bigger moves before the end of the year. If I were to guess, I imagine they trade Gleyber Torres for some pitching, resign Judge, and make a move for another big name starting pitcher. Ideally I would welcome Justin Verlander on a 1-2 year deal that would probably be between $35-40 mil a year. If they can some how swindle someone into taking Josh Donaldson, Aaron Hicks, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa (IKF) to get them the fuck off this team and Donaldson/Hicks terrible contract. But the organization is already talking about how they expect bounce back seasons from them next year. Hopefully Cashman and Steinbrenner are just saying that so a team may be dumb enough to trade for them.
But thats enough about the areas the Yankees need to address this off season. Rizzo being back is huge, now go resign Judge so we can all Jizzoooooo.
